Swarovski Crystal Visions of Time I - Octea-Sport

Swarovski, the world of jewellery is so familiar to fashionistas. Founded 114 years ago in 1895 to produce precision cut crystal elements or components, Swarovski expanded in the mid-1970s into the creation of finished crystal products, jewelleries, fashion accessories, and other decorative items. What’s more, it is also an important supplier of crystals to watch manufacturers. Based on its long-time research and development, thus it is not strange that it moves into watchmaking.

With over a hundred years of experience in cutting crystals, Swarovski has decoded to launch its own sparkling timepieces recently, making a major step into women’s fashion watch market for the Austrian crystal jewellery specialist. Let me introduce items of the collection one by one in the following posts. Today’s review is Octea Sport. The Octea line features the Sport, Mini and Lady watches.
The Octea Sport watch is inspired by diving watches and aims to combine the reliability of a Swiss quartz calibre movement with the delicacy of crystal. Described as both functional and elegant, the sporty watch captures the light, while the angles of its stainless steel case are faceted like Swarovski crystals. The watch features a unidirectional rotating bezel, and a timer appears at the heart of the Soleil cut crystal. Featuring a double-level 39mm dial, strong numbering and hand-applied indexes, this watch is said to meet international standards of sportsmanship and water resistance. It has luminescent hands and a non-reflecting sapphire crystal watch glass.

The wide cabochon-set crown bears the signature metallic Swan on a lacquer base. This model is also adorned with the Swanflower motif on its back which is engraved in high relief. The Octea Sport can be worn on a metal bracelet or on a soft rubber strap enhanced by six faceted crystals, traditionally mounted and set. The faceted horns and buckle are further Swarovski markers. This line is available in several colours as well as in a sports version with a stainless steel bracelet and butterfly clasp.?

Using Swarovski Crystal Centerpieces For Your Wedding Day

There are so many details that need to be considered to make your wedding day an absolutely incredible experience for you, your family, and your friends. You want to try and make every moment memorable for all of your loved ones that you have invited to share in your special day. I am going to discuss how you can make the table decorations really catch their eyes from the minute they walk in the door until they glance over their shoulders to get one last look before the day is done.

Since I have been making wedding days sparkle with Swarovski crystal centerpieces, I have come up with many of the ensembles through my own creativity. I have also gotten myriads of ideas from working with the brides themselves as I make their imaginations come to life. All of the arrangements and pieces that I will speak of in this article are only the beginning, please let your imagination run wild as you read this article and think of what is possible.

Lets start with the bouquets and floral arrangements on your tables at the reception. Swarovski crystal stems are very versatile, the stainless steel stems can be bent to work into arrangements that tower over the tables with calla lilies, the stems can be cut shorter to nestle in the center of roses, or even fall over the edges to mock ivy that dangles below the blooms.

Crystals can be incorporated in the ensemble by adding them to your décor with votive cups and candles that have Swarovski crystal "flat backs" glued to them in the shape of little hearts or wedding rings. I always thought it would be pretty to set a table with either bowls or tall, slender vases with floating candles in them. You could put loose crystals in the bottom of the water, and then set the decorated votives around them with tea lights. Doing this would make a very simple and elegant setting for a formal or informal wedding reception. One of the wonderful characteristics of Swarovski Crystals is that they are very brilliant, even in very low light.

Another way to have some sparkle on the table is to have crystals as your favors. The crystals will enhance the theme at everybody's place setting and give them a memory of the day that they'll have for years to come. You could put Swarovski Crystal Wine Glass Markers on everyone's glass; just imagine how pretty it would look when they are all raised for the toasts. You could also use Swarovski Crystal Napkin Rings as a way to bring glamour to the table and have a light-on-the-wallet but heavy-on-the-glitz favor for all of your friends and family to take home.

As I said in the beginning, this is only a scratch to the surface of possibilities that can be created from crystals. It is very easy to create a very glamorous and whimsical setting using crystals that will last in your heart and mind forever.

How do i replace a Swarovski crystal?

I bought a necklace in russia with swarovski crystals. i didnt buy it from the actual swarovski store. one of the crystals fell out though where can i get it replaced with another swarovski crystal..... and i kno it wont b free.

You could probably take it back to a jewelers or an actual swarovski crystal store to get it replaced.

The Sparkle of Swarovski Crystal Enchanted My Wife

I recently gave my wife a ring for her birthday. Hoping I could find something very special, I made plans to go to the mall to make my purchase. Surprisingly, a Bradford Exchange catalog arrived that day and I glanced through it and found the exact kind of ring I wanted. Thank goodness, I was saved from “a trip to hell.”

The ring band was nicely styled in gold and silver and the setting was a Swarovski clear, faceted crystal.. Even though I sell crystal jewelry on my site, I don’t carry rings. I thought that this ring would be a perfect gift for her. At least this one time I was right.

The first thing she said when she opened the box was, “Wow! Look at that sparkle!!” She was right, it was dazzling. But it didn’t end there. For the next two weeks she was flashing her ring in all different light sources.

She held her hand at the window, under the end table lamp, in the car and in bed reading. Her hand had been flashing for two weeks and each time she would smile and say, “Look how it sparkles,” or “do you see the sparkle?” She was so cute, I was touched.

My wife wore the ring to work everyday and she would come home and tell me how the coworkers liked the ring and how nicely it sparkled. This of course intensified her enthusiasm for the sparkle. After several days one of her lunch buddies started to ask her if it was a diamond. My wife stopped her mid-sentence and said, “It’s not a diamond and if it were I’d make him take it back and make him build a deck for me.” (Oh boy, just what I need,-another major house project.)

One evening we decided to go to the movies to see the new Harry Potter film. When the feature started the theater lights dimmed to total darkness and the opening scene of the film started in pitch black. My wife nudged me and whispered, “Look, it even sparkles in the dark.” I looked at the ring and sure enough tiny gold sparkles were dancing along the edge of the crystal.

It has been four weeks since I gave my wife the ring. She stills looks at the ring, then at me and smiles as she makes another comment about the sparkle. Now, I’m just an ordinary guy who doesn’t understand or comprehend the inner workings of the female mind or psyche.

I have simply concluded that the sparkle of Swarovski crystal has enchanted my wife. Yes, that’s it. I’m sure of it.

This crystal will also make a wonderful keepsake to display in a china cabinet or on a formal coffee table as a memory of wedding and gorgeous cake. Swarovski is, of course, not the only manufacturer of crystal. You can search the Internet for other brands and for something really unique to suit your day.

A brief introduction to Swarovski Crystals

The Swarovski logo can be identified by the famous swan but the original was an edelweiss flower. The appearence is a crystal that creates a rainbow spectrum by allowing light to refract by coating with metallic chemcals such as aurora and crystal transmission. 

The Swarovski Group even have their own television channel called Swarovski Sparkles TV Swarovski Crystal Palace is dedicated to specialised designs and furniture that can be custom made, or one off peices and have attracted a lot of media attention this year.

The Swarovski-crystal-covered Christmas tree at the Toronto Eaton Centre in 2006.

Xilion is a new cut released in 2004, which is copyrighted and is designed to "optimise the brilliance of roses."

The Swarovski Group even has an indoor theme park called Swarovski Kristallwelten which translates as "Crystal Worlds" situated near Inssbruck in Austria at its original Wattens site.

It's not difficult to understand why these crystals are used by the rich and famous in the most spectacular shows and costumes as well as the most unique designs and collector’s items.

The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree in New York City. Since 2004, the tree has been home to a 550 pound star which is 9 foot in diameter created by Swarovski.

Swarovski sponsored the 2004, "The Phantom of the Opera film which featured a Swarovski shop window using the swan logo however to have been truly accurate, the logo in the show window should have been the eidelwess flower which would have been the current logo for the period in which the film was set.

Swarovski even emplemented a gloabal movie campaign for the first time ever promoting the long awaited Sex and the City Movie in more tha 550 of their stores world wide. You won't forget that 'Nirvana' ring as well as the Era bag and the Kiosque Bag and was seen to be "the perfect fit for Sex and the City as they both evoke glamour, femininity and style."

CELEBRITY

Swarovski supported the British Fashion Awards in November 2008 for the third consecutive year running and that year the famous chandelier was actually designed by no less than the Lenny Kravitz!!!

MICHAEL JACKSON

Michael Jackson has spent a million pounds on Swarovski crystals for his comeback concert with over 300,000 crystals used for his costume and set in the 02 arena in London.

The Vice President of the Swarovski Crystal Business Nadja Swarovski commented that "As the King of Pop it is only natural for him to be crowned in crystal."

MADONNA

On Madonna's 'Sticky and Sweet' Tour, 2008 over 1.5 million crystals were used. This included over 700 metres of crystal mesh and if all of the crystals had been lined up it would have made up half a kilometre of crystals. This was an excellent example of the use of colour with the crystals where vibrant reds and orange tones were key. My favourite creation is the DJ headset which was made of loose hotfix crystals. The whole lot would have taken over 300 man hours to put together.

Here's a link to a jewelry site that I love. I have a necklace from there, and she can do any combo swarovski crystal colors and pearl colors. Each row is a set. Making Charms Using Swarovski Crystal Beads

Swarovski is the brand name for the range of precision-cut lead-crystal glass and related products produced by Swarovski AG of Wattens, Austria. These beautiful beads were first created in 1892 and transformed Victorian jewellery design. Today, these pretty crystals are as popular as ever in jewellery making and are ideal for making a complete range of items from earrings to necklaces, bracelets and broaches.

In order to create a crystal that allows light to refract in a rainbow spectrum, Swarovski crystal beads are coated with special metallic chemical coatings. Aurora Borealis is one of the most popular coatings and gives the surface a rainbow oil slick appearance. This makes Swarovski crystal beads a perfect accompaniment to any type of finding as the beads catch the light and really do sparkle with an iridescent shimmer. They are particularly popular used as charms and are incredibly easy to incorporate into even the most simple of designs.

To make your own charms using Swarovski crystal beads, you only need the most basic of jewellery making equipment. And you don't necessarily have to use them to make jewellery either - they can also be used to add a special sparkle to clothes or even mobile phone covers. All you need to make simple charms are a pair of round nose pliers, flush cutting pliers, a selection of crystal beads and perhaps some accent beads to add a flourish to the design, silver or gold jump rings and silver or gold eye or head pins. Decide on the design you'd like to create using a combination of Swarovski crystals and accent beads. String the beads onto a silver or gold head or eye pin, depending on your design. Leave enough length at the end of the pin so that you can make a loop for hanging and use the flush cutters to trim any excess wire from the end of the pin.

Use the round nose pliers to bend the remaining wire into a loop to finish off the charm. The smoother the loop, the better and stronger the charm will be. If you're able to solder skilfully you can give a more professional finish by soldering the join in the loop to secure your charm properly. Once you have several charms you can then string them together to make a 'cluster effect' necklace or sew them onto a jumper or cardigan to give it a new lease of life and added sparkle. Swarovski crystals are incredibly easy to use and look stunning for very little cost.

Good suppliers of crystals will carry a wide selection of colours and effects and the crystals have become so popular that there are even artists creating large sculptures incorporating the iridescence and shimmer of these simple but beautiful beads into their work. They are particularly good for children's jewellery projects as the bright colours and tactile nature of the crystals appeals to younger jewellery enthusiasts. The best way to discover the nature of these crystal beads is to buy a bag and just sit down and create your own designs with them. The only thing that limits you is your own imagination, so let it run wild and see what happens!

Making a Swarovski Crystal Bead Bracelet

Swarovski crystal beads have been a popular item in jewellery making for over 100 years and still retain their charm and attraction today. Simple to use and capable of creating a dazzling effect for very little effort, Swarovski crystals are a great introduction to the joys of making your own jewellery for any age. The pretty, iridescent crystals catch the light beautifully and come in a huge array of colours. They work well in almost any form of jewellery making, but are particularly effective when used to make a simple bracelet.

To create a beautiful Swarovski crystal bead bracelet, you will need a packet of size 15 seed beads, 24 small pearls and 36 small Swarovski crystal beads. Cut a length of beading thread approximately 1.5metres and thread it onto a beading needle. About 15cm from the end, attach a bead stopper. Each bead always has a seed bead either side of the crystal or pearl. So always add on bead "units" for example, one seed beads one crystal (or pearl) then one seed bead, every time you need to add on beads. Thread on four small crystal units: one seed bead, one crystal, one seed bead, four times. Allow the beads to fall down near your bead stopper. Pass needle through the bottom of the first small crystal unit and then pull the thread so the beads form a circle or a square.

Tie a small knot between the seed beads where your needle is and then continue to pass the needle through the next small crystal unit. The needle always comes out of the bottom crystal or pearl unit ready to add the next circle. Add on one small crystal unit, one small pearl unit and one small crystal unit. Pass the needle through the next small crystal unit (on the circle you have just added on) then through small pearl unit. Add on three small pearl units, then pass the needle through the existing small pearl unit on the previous circle, and then pull thread up. You will now have three adjoining circles. Pass the needle through the next two small pearl units. Add on three small crystal units and pass the needle through the small unit from the previous circle. Then repeat the process with the next two small crystal units until you have four adjoining circles. Continue adding on units until you have three complete small pearl unit circles.

You can carry on with this pattern to create an interlinked bracelet of circles, emphasising the Swarovski crystals and creating a glittering effect. If you wish to get a little more adventurous you can add 'feature beads' onto the design to create a focal point on the bracelet that will draw the eye. But the beauty of Swarovski crystals is their adaptability, versatility and the ease with which they will fit into almost any design you choose. For a very simple but stylish effect, add Swarovski crystals to a simple silver chain to produce a 'charm bracelet' of crystals. Using a pin style earring wire, thread your crystal onto the wire and bend the end of the wire around a pair of round-nosed pliers to form a loop. Trim the excess wire off with a pair of jeweller's wire-cutters and bend the loop back so that the crystal hangs freely. Attach the crystal to your silver chain and close the loop, soldering the join to be extra sure that your crystal doesn't come off too easily. By spacing a variety of Swarovski crystals around the bracelet you can achieve the look you want. The beauty of this simple design is that when you grow bored of the colours you can simply remove the crystals and replace them with new ones to suit your mood or this season's latest fashion colours. Swarovski crystal beads are fun, versatile and beautiful and make the perfect addition to almost any jewellery design.
