Wedding Ceremony Checklist

Okay, the big day is finally here, and in mere moments the wedding ceremony will begin! At this point, all of the big stuff should be under control, but there are still a few finishing touches to be put in place. Make sure that you do not overlook anything with this wedding ceremony checklist.

First, the maid of honor or the bride's mother should spend a few minutes carefully looking over the bridal ensemble. The bride wants to look as perfect as possible when she makes her grand entrance, after all. Check to be sure that her veil is securely anchored and the headpiece is nice and straight. What about the bridal jewelry? Are her earrings properly fastened? Have any clasps on pieces of bridal jewelry slid to the front?

Then take a good look at the wedding gown itself. Have all the layers of the petticoat been pulled straight and given a good fluff? (Crinolines are notorious for getting bunched up under a wedding gown.) If the bridal gown has those little hanging straps, be sure that they are completed tucked into the side of the gown or better yet, just cut them out. Then do the same for the bridesmaids. If the bride's dress has any bows or ribbons, make sure that they are tied perfectly and that the ends hang well. Does the bride have her something old, new, borrowed, and blue? And finally, someone should make certain that the bride does not have any lipstick on her teeth!

The groom has a few last minute tasks to undertake as well before taking his place at the altar. Is his breath fresh? If not, he can quickly pop a mint or a piece of gum. But for goodness sake, take the gum out of your mouth before the ceremony begins! I have actually witnessed grooms chewing gum while reciting their vows, and it looks absolutely terrible. Speaking of vows, if you have written your own for the ceremony, be sure you have them in your jacket pocket. The groom should also take a moment to comb his hair, straighten his tie, and adjust his boutonierre, if needed.

The wedding party should also get themselves ready before the ceremony music begins. Bridesmaids, if you need to adjust your strapless gown, this is the time to do it! Please resist the urge to tug on your dress while standing at the altar. Make sure that you have your bouquet close at hand, and that when you pick it up to process down the aisle, any bows or ribbon streamers are facing out. Like the bride, the bridesmaids should make sure that their makeup is fresh and unsmudged, and that their jewelry is secure with clasps hidden.

The best man has one incredibly important thing to check before the wedding ceremony, and that is the wedding bands. He should have them tucked into a breast pocket, ready to produce for the ring exchange portion of the ceremony. The best man can also do everyone a favor by ensuring that the groomsmen do not talk the groom into having too many celebratory drinks right before the ceremony. He would also be a good person to make sure that the troops are in order: shirts neatly tucked in, boutonierres in place, ties straight, and so on. With everyone looking their best, the wedding will be ready to go!

Traditionally petticoats are white, but color never killed anyone. First nearly every formal petticoat is white or black (as mentioned before usually white). So if you are looking for a special color you will likely have to dye it yourself (Links below). But before you can do that you have to have the petticoat. If you want anyone to really see it go with a net petticoat not a hoop skirt. Pick your fullness carefully, for a net petticoat it is better to get it a little to full than not full enough. A worn net petticoat will feel the effects of gravity over time and should even out. I bought my last petticoat from Mygowns.com, they where pretty fast (less than a week), but there are other retailers out there.

How do I sew a 1950's style petticoat/crinoline?

I'd like to make a 1950's vintage outfit. I am a fairly accomplished seamstress but for some reason my attempt at this was not... quite right. I don't believe my petticoat was full enough. My specific question is about how much netting would you suggest for an average petticoat of this style http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a... ? What kind of a proportion of length should there be between tiers?

Gothic Lolita gets its name from the dark and scary aspect of the Gothic, but from the detailed and distinct style of dark elegance and Gothic style. Gothic Lolita shares the Lolita's quest for innocence and elegance. It is said that the Lolita and Gothic Lolita cultures of Japanese enjoy a tight-knit community that is a nurturing place for otherwise-misfit kids to enjoy. It is a place where nostalgia for a simpler time is embraced and played upon.

Japanese Street Fashion is the best and most flamboyant outfits. Gothic Lolita is a street fashion among Japanese teenagers and young women, some men participate in this fashion as well. It is emphasizes Victorian-style and Edwardian fashion girl's clothing and aims to imitate the look of Victorian porcelain dolls.The important elements for Victorian style or Victorian porcelain dolls are puff sleeves, low neckline, bell shape, crinoline and corset with lot of laces decorations.

Gothic Lolita, as a more specific subset of Lolita fashion, has a great deal in common with Lolita style, in particular the nostalgic drive. One Lolita writes,

" Personally, I like the Gothic Lolita fashion because it's complicated and elegant and a return to an older time..."

However, Wikipedia mentioned that Gothic Lolita are often ‘Band-Gals', obsessive followers of one or more rock bands.

Many Japanese teens are not followers of a trend dictated from the top of the fashion food chain but are the creators of trends (and often their own clothing as well) that are then taken up by the fashion industry.

Gothic Lolita was and popularized by the imagery of some Visual Kei (or "visual rock") bands. Malice Mizer (pronounced Marisu Miseru) is a Visual Kei band (disband now), former leader and guitarist of Malice Mizer, Mana, is commonly given credit for starting the Gothic Lolita style. In 1999, he founded his own fashion label, Moi-même-Moitié, for which he coined the terms Elegant Gothic Lolita (EGL) and Elegant Gothic Aristocrat (EGA). Mana, a male, regularly appears in the Gothic & Lolita Bible, modeling his own Victorian-inspired designs with heavy Gothic makeup and big hair.

The popularity of Gothic Lolita as a very distinct style and community peaked around 2004 and 2005 in Tokyo. Its popularity outside Tokyo is slowly rising or at its peak in many areas, and the related maid cafe phenomenon still slowly growing.

The responsive of Japanese to the acceptance of Gothic Lolita not only the reflection of Japanese super high fashion sense and perseverance in fashion, but tell us something also of the Japanese society and Japanese culture, why the Gothic Lolita can be a vogue in Japanese Street Fashion.

Hand sewn garments are combined with a mix of items from trendy city store.

Gothic Lolita Fashion had form a vogue in Japanese Street Fashion but why? Their choice of style is more than just a fashion statement; it is also a way of their life. This could reminiscent of Japanese society and Japanese culture.

Japanese street fashion is a fashion which far more elaborates from other country's fashion. The emphasis on uniqueness leads a lot of Lolita creates their own outfit.

Japanese street fashion is a rebellion against the conventions of a consumer based culture. There are very distinct styles can be found in Japanese street fashion, ranging from absolutely ridiculous to not-so-out-of-the-ordinary. But, their rebellion is being recycled back into the system which means these street fashion kids radical fashion has become the inspiration for local designers.

It is a chance for these Lolita to embrace the hyper-celebrity culture of Japan and integrate it top-down into their own lives. The Gothic Lolita look is an amazing contrast of innocence and sexuality. The child-like physical look of young Japanese women contributes to this alluring illusion. As we all know, the Japanese have some of the most interesting fetishes and sexual habits of any culture on Earth. Female youth have long been exciting to older Japanese males and the innocence of looking like a child may appeal to these women because of the powerful sexual allure but also because it presents a way for them to escape growing up at least for the moments they are dressed in the Gothic Lolita style.

Nostalgia is a strong impulse during periods when the contemporary world is frightening or uncertain. In fact, Japanese people don't want to be growing up so quickly. Japanese culture places a high value upon extremely youthful appearance and behavior than any Western, and some adult women buy large amounts of products, such as Hello Kitty goods, that are typically marketed only to children in the West. Gothic Lolita fashion is perhaps a more visible extension of this phenomenon. Lolita don't just dress the part, they act the part, too. Hunched shoulders and pigeon toes, their body language is distinctly and purposely childish. It is a form of escapism, a way for them to spend time away from the high pressure Japanese society. Japanese peoples would like to stay young mentally and socially.

Unique and Distinctive is the best word used to describe the Japanese. They are self-admiration and they are very dare to trying something that is bizarre. But there is nothing wrong with it. They style aids in making the social lives of these Japanese more light-hearted and sweet, and it gives them a chance to express themselves very creatively. Trying to look young and elegant all at once is a purely Japanese phenomenon. Possibly this Gothic Lolita fashion look holds the allure for them as does the ‘Romantic Gothic', Victorian or Renaissance, style in the West. That allure of a more cordial and better dressed time in history. Or perhaps these young Japanese are just following a trend to be a part of the conformity of a bigger crowd.

Fashion today is not only about clothes but it is also reflects on one's self-esteem, self-definition, self-image, self-personality and one's culture or society. It is to present owns creativity, idea and identity of someone.

A skirt is a tube- or cone-shaped garment that hangs from the waist and covers all or part of the legs.

In European culture, skirts are usually considered women's clothing. However, there are exceptions. The kilt is a traditional men's garment in Scotland, and some fashion designers, such as Jean-Paul Gaultier, have shown men's skirts.

At its simplest, a skirt can be a draped garment made out of a single piece of material (such as pareos), but most skirts are fitted to the body at the waist and fuller below, with the fullness introduced by means of dart, gores, pleats, or panels. Modern skirts are usually made of light to mid-weight fabrics, such as denim, jersey, worsted, or poplin. Skirts of thin or clingy fabrics are often worn with slips to make the material of the skirt drape better and for modesty.

The hemline of skirts can be as high as the upper thigh or as low as the ground, depending on the whims of fashion and the modesty or personal taste of the wearer.

Some medieval upper-class women wore skirts over 3 metres in diameter at the bottom. At the other extreme, the miniskirts of the 1960s were minimal garments that may have barely covered the underwear when seated.

Costume historians typically use the word "petticoat" to describe skirt-like garments of the 18th century or earlier.

Skirts have been worn by men and women from many cultures, such as the lungi, kanga and sarong worn in South Asia and Southeast Asia, and the kilt worn in Scotland.

The earliest known culture to have females wear miniskirts were the Duan Qun Miao, which literally meant "short skirt Miao" in Chinese. This was in reference to the short miniskirts "that barely cover the buttocks" worn by women of the tribe, and which were "probably shocking" to Han Chinese observers in medieval and early modern times.

During the nineteenth century, the cut of women's dresses in western culture varied more widely than in any other century. Waistlines started just below the bust (the Empire silhouette) and gradually sank to the natural waist. Skirts started fairly narrow and increased dramatically to the hoopskirt and crinoline-supported styles of the 1860s; then fullness was draped and drawn to the back by means of bustles.

Beginning around 1915, hemlines for daytime dresses left the floor for good. For the next fifty years, fashionable skirts became short (1920s), then long (1930s), then shorter (the War Years with their restrictions on fabric), then long (the New Look), then shortest of all during the 1960s, when skirts became as short as possible while avoiding exposure of underwear, which was considered taboo.

Since the 1970s and the rise of pants for women as an option for all but the most formal of occasions, no one skirt length has dominated fashion for long, with short and ankle-length styles often appearing side-by-side in fashion magazines and catalogs.

There are a number of male garments which fall under the catergory of "skirt" or "dress." These go by a variety of names and form part of the traditional dress for men from various cultures. Usage varies - the dhoti is part of everyday dress on the Indian subcontinent while the kilt is more usually restricted to occasional wear and the foustanella is used almost exclusively as costume. Robes, which are a type of dress for men, have existed in many cultures, including the Japanese kimono, the Chinese cheongsam, the Arabic thobe, and the African Senegalese kaftan. Robes are also used in some religious orders, such as the cassock in Christianity and various robes and cloaks that may be used in pagan rituals.

In the Western world skirts, dresses and similar garments are considered primarily women's clothing today although historically that was not the case.[2] The wearing of skirts by men in these areas is generally seen as cross-dressing although some fashion designers such as Jean-Paul Gaultier have produced skirts for men and kilts are widely accepted in some situations.

In various subcultures, such as the goth and punk subcultures, the use of skirts by men is not necessarily seen as cross-dressing and is much more likely to be accepted.
