Indian weddings, more often than not, are rather lavish affairs and it is only natural to expect a variety of Indian wedding decoration if you are to attend an Indian wedding. You have to realize that Indian weddings are generally long drawn affairs, with the ceremonies often lasting for more than a few days. Indian wedding decoration, therefore, depends on what exactly is taking place.

Indian wedding decor is generally based on the religious and cultural leanings of the families involved, and can vary from region to region. However, there are a few things that remain common in weddings across the country.

Flowers find their way into the decor of every celebration that is part of the wedding ceremony. During functions that are part of the pre wedding, which are generally held by the bride’s family, the decor is usually elaborate and tries to lay focus on the bride. Special care is taken in ensuring that the bride looks her best, and this involves going through countless Indian make up options and Indian wedding hairstyles.

The wedding day decor is even more elaborate, with lights, flowers, fireworks, colored table cloths, seat covers, etc, used liberally. A fair amount of time and effort is spent is getting the bride and the bridegroom ready for the wedding ceremony. The families of the bride and the bridegroom also dress in accordance, and the males often adorn colorful turbans on their heads, further adding to the overall decor.

An important aspect of most Indian weddings is where pictures of the bride and the bridegroom are taken with all family members and friends, individually. This has the bride and the groom posing repeatedly for the camera, resulting in pictures that can appear to be forced.

Food plays a very important role in Indian weddings, and one can often find extensive menus being planned for Indian weddings. The way that the food is presented is also made to blend with the overall decor, and food stalls are generally strategically placed in accordance to the venue’s specifications.

The wedding decoration does not end with the wedding, and leads into the room where the newly wedded couple is to spend the night. This room is often adorned with rose petals and jasmine, new bed sheets, incense, etc.

While there really isn’t any one set pattern when it comes to Indian wedding decor, tradition and custom, almost always, find their way into most Indian wedding decoration ideas.
