A reception followed in the Camelot Room at the Masonic Temple. Maids of honor were Megan and Stephanie Flinchbaugh.

Wedding Veil - a Tradition That Still Rules

 

The wedding attire of the bride somehow remains incomplete without a beautiful wedding veil. It makes the bride look prettier and lends a touch of glamour too. This is why while shopping for an affordable wedding dress, proper attention should also be given to a matching veil.

Buying a matching veil has become an easy task as most of the conventional shops selling wedding gowns as well as online stores nowadays keep a good stock of both affordable wedding dresses and lovely veils.

Old Tradition

The tradition of wearing a bridal veil is quite old. Initially a bride used to wear a veil to signify that she was under the full protection of her groom. According to some beliefs, it also symbolized a wife's submission to her husband.

As per the old wedding customs, the groom was not supposed to see the bride before the ceremony. In the olden days, marriages were arranged by the family members and relatives of the bride and the groom and “dating" was not a custom. Hence, by wearing a veil, a bride’s face used to remain hidden and the groom used to lift the veil at the end of the ceremony.

Another custom behind wearing a veil was to tease the groom by hiding the face of the bride and the groom was allowed to see the face of the bride only after the wedding ceremony is over.

Whether you believe in these traditions or not, but wearing a veil is still in fashion and would-be-brides give a lot of thought to selecting a veil that matches perfectly with their wedding dress and further enhances its appeal.

Types of Veils

Basically, there are four different types of veils that you can find to go with most of the wedding dresses available in bridal stores, both conventional and online such as:

1. Blusher veil: A blusher veil can be used by a bride in both formal and informal weddings. Made of a single piece of a thick fabric, a blusher veil is short in length or of shoulder length.

2. Elbow length veil: An elbow length veil is the most popular veil. About 24 inches in length, it touches the elbow of the bride.

3. Fingertip veil: About 36 inches in length, a fingertip veil touch the fingertips of the bride.

4. Cathedral veil: The longest amongst the wedding veils, it is basically worn in a formal wedding. It is so long that it extends to the floor past the train. This veil is made from yards and yards of veil material.

Veil colors and styles

Veils are available in different colors; however it is the white colored veil that is the most preferred choice. Apart from white, veils are available in off white, ivory, champagne and diamond white. As far as style is concerned there are embroidered, beaded, lace trimmed, scalloped edge and satin edge wedding veils.

Be it a premium custom made veil or off-the-shelf affordable veil, buy one only after deciding the intricate details of your wedding dress. Before buying a veil, take into consideration the overall height and the length of your wedding dress or gown.
