I paid for my wedding dress in full & tonight on the news heard the bridal shop shut its doors, what do I do?

I am completely distraught! It was hard to do, but about a month ago, I put my final payment on my 1400.00 wedding dress. Tonight, I was watching the news and they said the bridal shop that I bought my dress from has shut its doors! There was a note on the door that due to the economy the store is closed. I was horrified! I'm still in shock, but we called the non-emergency line for the police and they said they have been flooded with phone calls- not only can they not find the owner, she has disconnected her cell phone and her other phone's voice mailbox is full. I'm not sure what to do at this point- how can I even go about beginning a lawsuit if they can't find her? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

If you paid by credit card, contact the credit card company and ask them to help you reverse the charges or file a charge back against the store.

Are there other bridal salons in the area? Chances are they will try and help you get your dress if they carry the line. You may have to pay them for the dress, but the manufacturer sometimes will work with another store in the area and ship them the dress if your dress hasn't shipped yet to the store that ordered your dress. The manufacturer really wants you to have your dress because they don't want it in their inventory and they don't want to get bad press when it wasn't their fault.

Contact the manufacturer of the dress yourself to see if the dress has been shipped yet. They may or may not want to work directly with you, but most will do their best to give you help and advice.
