URGENT!! I need reliable advice on how to create a hairstyle.?

I have a wedding coming up soon, and can't afford to get my hair done in a salon.

I was wondering how to do a really simple updo with bobby pins and hair pins- just advice on how to use the pins effectively is fine, as I having trouble wedging them in correctly, particularly the hairpins!

Also go for something romantic and wavy as it is your wedding day - it doesnt HAVE to be tied up, have it half tied up? with simple pins but don't overload it!
